This September 15 marked the first day of the National Hispanic Heritage Month – 31 days of celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans who are, or who descend from, Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
Did you know that the San Fernando Valley also has a unique connection to Hispanic Heritage? 43% of the people in the region are Latino, according to the Los Angeles Mapping Project of the LA Times.
Knowing this, and that CSU Northridge has a strong and vibrant Chicana and Chicano Studies program, The Soraya has worked for years to recognize the many diverse communities around us.
And although the various options we offer you go far beyond the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month (October 15), our Aída Cuevas concert on October 1 falls just
in the middle of this important month – and who better to celebrate it than with the Queen of Ranchera Music?
“[Aida] Cuevas is to Mexico what Aretha Franklin is to the United States: a powerful
voice that encapsulates the essence of her nation’s spirit,”
-Kansas City Star
In his fifth performance with The Soraya since 2016, Aída Cuevas will present this October 1, “I think it’s Time”, an unforgettable and emotional concert commemorating his 45 years as
a Mexican artist, widely recognized for her immense talent to the point of being considered the most important female voice in Mexico.
In 2018, Aída became the first female mariachi singer to ever win a GRAMMY® when she was honored with the “Best Regional Mexican Music Album” award for her album, Arrieros Somos (Acoustic Sessions).
The Soraya is proud to be one of Aída’s preferred venues, and also for its continued support of the arts through our programs – most recently in our Tribute to
Linda Ronstadt from October 2021.
Aída’s concert at The Soraya marks the first of nine outstanding performances in our Made in the Americas Series – dedicated to diverse musical and dance forms
from Mexico, Central and South America, and from the communities all around CSU Northridge and The Soraya.
With the regal accompaniment of Mariachi Aztlán, Aída Cuevas will perform on Saturday, October 1 at 8pm. Tickets on sale from $41. For a limited time, The Soraya is offering you 15% off at select locations when you purchase with the code “HECHO”. Offer expires 1
october. To purchase your seats, click here, or call the Box Office at 818-677-3000, and don’t forget to mention the code “HECHO” to receive your 15% discount.
