No other series Netflix is giving as much to talk about lately as ‘Sandman’. From Neil Gaiman’s doubts about him getting a season 2 to the surprise release of a bonus episode, his headline-grabbing power is immense. And now he’s back at it with the release of a deleted scene from the first episode.
It has been Netflix itself that has released this sequence of almost two minutes exclusively, in which the leading role falls on Sir Roderick Burgess, the character played by Charles Dance. It’s a shame they removed it, because it works very well and it’s also a reminder of how great this actor was playing Tywin Lannister in ‘Game of Thrones’.
It will be necessary to see if Netflix still has any more ace up the sleeve of ‘Sandman’, but it is clear that what his followers are looking forward to is the announcement of a second season. After initial doubts, it seemed that it was something that was little less than assured, but Gaiman’s recent comments have revived the fear of a possible cancellation.
For me, it took me a while to connect with ‘Sandman’, but I ended up doing it, since I liked his last episodes much more than the first ones. Curiously, there are people to whom just the opposite happened, but the important thing is that in the end it has ended up being one of the best Netflix series of this 2022.
