When the Duffer brothers announced the launch of their own production company, named Upside Down Pictures, they made it clear that they intended to continue squeezing their goose that laid the golden eggs. In addition to the fifth season of ‘Stranger Things’, which is already in the pre-production phase, the showrunners they added a live action spin-off to their projects; but the Netflix series is not going to stop its expansion with him.
Big in Japan
As reported by Whats on Netflix, the big N of streaming —don’t get mad at me— is officially shaping a new spin-off of the show; an anime titled ‘Stranger Things Tokyo’ that has been cooking since the beginning of 2021 and that will take us to the capital of Japan for about six hours.
So far, the details about the title plot are extremely scarce, and are limited to the brief log line that you can read below, although this could be a golden opportunity for the series get closer than ever to one of its great references: the eternal ‘Akira’ by Katsuhiro Otomo.
“An encounter with the world of Upside Down turns into a grand adventure for video game-loving twin brothers on the outskirts of 1980s Tokyo.”
‘Stranger Things Tokyo’ is a new stone in the construction of what the director and executive producer of Shawn Levy calls as Stranger Things Cinematic Universe. The director has commented how working with Marvel Studios on ‘Deadpool 3’ has affected this plan on a large scale.
“Yes, we’re building the STCU, and now that I’m spending time with Kevin Feige, I’m learning a lot about running a universe. So I’m taking these skills and applying them to the STCU.”
With or without the universe, it is clear that we have ‘Stranger Things’ for a whileand as long as what is to come has the same quality as the fourth season, welcome.
