“Today we say goodbye to an essential figure of art in our country. We mourn the sensitive loss of the first actor, dancer, choreographer and director Farnesio de Bernal (1926 -2023). Originally from Michoacán, Bernal is a nodal figure in our artistic panorama”, the Teatros Ciudad de México published on their social networks.
“Nationally and internationally recognized, since 2008 he was part of the stable cast of the National Theater Company, and in 2009 he was recognized as a number actor,” detailed the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature.
Farnesio participated in the works: to be is to be seen, Neither the sun nor death can face each other, Edip in Colophon, The Misunderstanding, The cherry orchard, Illusions, Leñero Project and starred in the monologue About the damage that tobacco does… and something else.
His work and his undoubted talent were awarded multiple times:
- 1974: Virginia Fábregas Medal for his 25 years working as an actor
- 1989: honored by the UNAM Choreographic Workshop.
- 1991: Ariel for her participation in the film Benjamin’s wife.
- 2011: After an emeritus artistic career, he was awarded the Fine Arts Medal.
- 2022: In the celebration of 50 years of existence of the CNT, he was awarded recognition for the masterful performance as an actor that he has carried out for decades.

After the death of the first actor, there were many reactions that were generated through social networks, one of them was from the director Guillermo del Toro, who recalled that he worked with “Farne” in “Cronos” and also in the filming of “Cabeza de vaca”.
