HBO just announced the renewal of ‘The Last of Us’ for a second season. It has barely been necessary to release two episodes so that the chain is clear that it was worth going ahead with this adaptation of the video game saga of Naughty Dog.
Taking into account the historic success that ‘The Last of Us’ has achieved so far, it was logical that it was a simple matter of time for HBO to make it official, but it never hurts to have the final confirmation that the first great series of 2023 is not going to leave its story halfway.
“The public has given us the opportunity to continue“
Neil Druckmancreator of the original video game and also one of the heads of the HBO series, has not hesitated to show his enthusiasm for the renewal:
I am humbled, honored and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our account of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to repeat it with the second season. On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog and PlayStation, thank you!
For his part, craig mazin (‘Chernobyl’), creator of the series along with Druckmann, has highlighted that “I am very grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and even more so to the millions of people who have joined us on this journey. The audience has given us a chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and world that Neil and Naughty Dog created, I couldn’t be more ready to dive back into them.“.

Now it will be time to be patient, because ‘The Last of Us’ is a series that requires hard work both in preparation and in filming and post-production, so don’t be surprised if the second season ends up being pushed back to 2025. And if we pay attention to some recent statements by Mazin, everything indicates that at least they will need a third installment to tell the story to his liking.
