Warner Bros. canceled the release of Batgirl on August 2, a film that had a cast made up of Leslie Grace, Brendan Fraser, JK Simmons and Michael Keaton.
This was one of the projects that was initially contemplated for release on digital platforms, but production went on hiatus, after the analysis of the new Warner Bros. board of directors who evaluated the projects at the door.
Given this, the directors of Batgirl, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, made their position known, through a statement that the filmmakers shared on their Instagram accounts.
The letter from the directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah
“We are sad and shocked by the news. We still can’t believe it. As directors, it’s critical that our work be shown to the public, and while the film was far from finished, we wish fans around the world had had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film for themselves. Maybe one day they will do it insha’Allah (God willing)”.
“Our incredible cast and crew did a great job and worked so hard to bring Batgirl to life. We are eternally grateful to have been a part of that team. It was a dream to work with such fantastic actors as Michael Keaton, JK Simmons, Brendan Fraser, Jacob Scipio, Corey Johnson, Rebecca Front and especially the great Leslie Grace, who played Batgirl with such passion, dedication and humanity.”
“In any case, as huge Batman fans since we were little kids, it was a privilege and an honor to have been a part of the DCEU, even for a brief moment.”
