Spain hides so much, so much, that even if we did a daily article with every precious corner that we find in the country, we would not end it in a million years. Waterfalls, impossible routes, Hanging bridges, beautiful towns, amazing castles… Each autonomous community is special and hides unique places that we are looking forward to discovering, and Aragón is no less.
Within Aragon we find the beautiful province of Teruelwhich we know exists (its inhabitants have already taken care of remembering it with one of the most famous advertising campaigns of Spanish tourism), but in reality, in addition to existing, it has some of the most beautiful towns in Spain, and today we bring you one of them: Mora de Rubielos.
Maybe Rubielos de Mora sounds more familiar to you, but Mora de Rubielos is as pretty as her sister, and somewhat less well known. A charming town that is halfway between Madrid and Barcelona and that it is perfect for marking a getaway fleeing the big city.
Mora de Rubielos and its castle in the heart of the town
If having a castle in the middle of the urban area is not reason enough to visit Mora de Rubielos, I am going to give you an absolutely intoxicating fact and that is that its surroundings are perfect for excursions.
Hiking trails through the countryside, enjoying the landscapes of Aragon by bike, walking among streams… A great plan in the middle of nature that amazes us.
The Gothic castle is imposing and looks even better next to the former collegiate church of Santa María, both presiding over the town. The Palacio de los Fernández de Heredia, the Mora de Rubielos castle, is one of the best preserved in Aragon and was built from the last third of the 14th century and was inhabited by the Fernández de Heredia family until 1614, when it passed to the Franciscan monks who remained there until the secularization of Mendizábal in 1835.
If we walk through the urban center, with its walled enclosure, we will marvel at its cobbled streets such as Las Parras streetand we will be able to delight ourselves with the Casa García Herranz, the town hall or the church square, as well as the numerous arches and portals of the wall and the towers.
Along with the stately Renaissance buildings, the center is one of the most beautiful urban complexes in Aragon, recognized with the Europa Nostra award.
