‘The Boogeyman’ is based on the short story of the same name that Stephen King published in his famous anthology ‘Night Shift’, from 1978.
Stephen King He is the living author of horror literature who has seen his work adapted to the big screen the most times. From his mind have emerged stories familiar to fans of the genre such as The Shining, Item, Pet Cemetery either Carrietrue horror movie classics. One more adaptation will soon be coming to swell this list: it is about The Boogeymana story that comes in the short story anthology the threshold of night (nightshiftits title in English), published in 1978.
The Boogeyman: The Man with the Bag, as the name of the production for the Spanish-speaking market has been presented, tells the story of a girl who claims that a monstrous being lives in the back of her closet. Every night this presence of hers frightens her and her father does not believe the little girl’s statements.

It is an idea that refers us to those natural and ancestral fears of the dark and the unknown How well does Stephen King handle it? The film is directed by Rob Savage and the plot will include a brief allusion to the origin of the main creature in the story. The script will be written four hands by Mark Heyman, Scott Beck, Bryan Woods and Akela Cooper.
The trailer for this production was released at the beginning of this year and surprised by its dark setting.
A classic horror movie
“The Boogeyman is a classic horror movie in the mold of Poltergeist it’s equal parts heart and scares,” says director Rob Savage. “I vividly remember the terror I felt reading King’s short story as a child, and it is this sense of childhood fear that I wanted to inspire in movie audiences around the world. This film has been made in collaboration with an incredibly talented team of creatives, and features wonderfully moving performances from our incredible cast. We are incredibly proud of this film.”
The production will have its theatrical release worldwide in June 2023 and then become part of huluone of the streaming services that has a large catalog of both contemporary and classic horror movies.
So far, four posters of the film are known, which capture the entire essence of this dark story.
The legacy of nightshift
This anthology, which first appeared in 1978, was the first collection of short stories published by King after his famous novels. Carrie, Salem’s Lot, anger (under the pseudonym of Richard Bachmann) and The Shining.
In the beginning, The Boogeymaneither The coconut, as the story was translated into Spanish, focused on the story of a man who is persecuted by a faceless being. Then King put the spin on it that we all know.
Several of the stories nightshift they have been made into movies or short films over the years. The book is considered by many fans and experts on King’s work to be the Maine-born author’s finest collection of short stories.
