To tell the truth, most of the powerful animation releases are yet to come: ‘Spiderman: Crossing the Multiverse’, ‘Elemental’, ‘Trolls 3’, ‘Ruby, Adventures of a Teenage Kraken’, ‘Wish’, ‘Migration’ , the sequel ‘Chicken Run’… the animated year looks really good.
At the moment we have a couple of really interesting animated films released so far in 2023some of them still on the billboard and that you can recover at the next Film Festival.
‘Suzume’
With his new film, Makoto Shinkai has managed to outdo himself: an exciting road movie that takes us all over Japan, in the company of Suzume and her chair (you have read correctly). A journey full of fantasy, in which she will try to avoid one catastrophe after another and heal past wounds. It goes without saying that the visual section is simply spectacular.
‘Super Mario Bros. The Movie’
Despite the initial suspicion (understandable after the disconcerting previous attempt to adapt the video game to the cinema), Illumination took the cat into the water with which it holds the title of highest-grossing animated film of the year. A colorful festival of winks intended for fans of the original and with a devilishly entertaining rhythm.
‘Mummies’
One of the animated surprises of the year. This Spanish film takes the best qualities from studios like DreamWorks or Disney and gives us an hour and a half of pure fun. This secret city of mummies hides a thrilling story full of humor for all audiences.
‘Mavka, guardian of the forest’
Luckily, more and more animation comes to us outside of the big studios and this film is proof of that. Without reinventing the wheel, this fairy tale introduces us to Ukrainian mythology through a charming love storywith an ecological message included.
‘Oink Oink’
We could not close without remembering this vegan stop motion adventure about the endearing relationship between a girl and her little pig. Although he overuses the same type of jokes (in the end, the joke loses its force after seeing the animal farting and pooping all the time), it is refreshing precisely for embracing that humor without fear and with total freedom.
