Although it may not seem like it due to the crazy weather we have been experiencing for a few months, we have just plunged into the month of July —yes, now—, and that means that the imminent summer season is beginning to permeate the film premieres that come to our rooms. This Friday the 2nd we can see this represented in the arrival of a new superhero blockbusterfrom a movie studio horror and of… a comedy with Leo Harlem. Anyway, let’s review what we can put in our mouths this weekend.
The premieres of June 2, 2023
‘Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse’ (‘Spider-Man: Across the Multiverse’)
- Come on, we’re off to a strong start: It’s the best movie of the character and the best superhero movie in general that our weather-beaten retinas have ever seen.
- It is directed by six hands by Joaquim Dos Santos —’Avatar: The Legend of Aang’—, Kemp Powers —’Soul’— and Justin Thompson –’The Powerpuff Girls’—.
- Its original cast includes the vocal chords of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Andy Samberg, and Jason Schwartzman, among others.
- The film takes place in six dimensions, has 240 characters and has been shaped by more than 1,000 animators. Almost nothing.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Spider-Man: Crossing the multiverse’ becomes the best movie of the character, putting visual madness at the service of the narrative
‘The Boogeyman’ (2023)
- It is the new film by Rob Savage, director of the pandemic hit in found footage key that was ‘Host’ and of the hilarious ‘Dashcam’.
- It adapts – very freely, yes – the homonymous story by the master of literary terror Stephen King.
- Its cast is made up of Chris Messina, Sophie Thatcher, David Dastmalchian and Marin Ireland, among others.
- It is another of those films destined for streaming that, by the work and magic of the test screenings, in which it received enthusiastic opinions, ended up making the leap to the big screen thanks to the trust of 20th Century Studios.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘The Boogeyman’: the adaptation of Stephen King’s most chilling story is an effective youth horror drama but betrays the essence of the text
‘Rebel’ (2022)
- It is the new film by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who directed the surprising ‘Bad Boys for Life’ and who went through the MCU in ‘Ms. Marvel’.
- The film offers a good cocktail of drama, thriller and action with all the nerve that the filmmaking duo demonstrated in the third installment of the rebel cops.
- His argument is extremely delicate, since it proposes us to place ourselves in the point of view of two brothers mired in the Syrian conflict with connections to the jihad.
- Its cast includes Aboubakr BVenshaihi, Lubna Azabal and Amir El Arbi, among others.
