if today there is film premieres, is that it is Friday; specifically on the 24th of a month of February about to say goodbye to us and which brings a good handful of novelties to our rooms under its arm. On this occasion there are no Oscar nominees among them, but there are some other especially juicy title not to be missed on the big screen. Let’s review what we can take to our retinas this weekend.
The premieres of February 24, 2023
‘Missing’ (2023)
- It is a sequel to ‘Searching…’, the surprising 2018 thriller that immersed us in an investigation through a computer screen.
- It is directed four hands by Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick, the editors of its predecessor.
- It stars Tim Griffi, Nia Long, Ken Leung, and May Landecker.
- If you liked the first installment, the formula for ‘Missing’ is practically identical.
‘Terrifier 2’ (2022)
- After the whole world saw it in Terror Molins —heh— ‘Terrifier 2’ arrives in our movie theaters after becoming one of the cinematographic phenomena of 2022.
- It is a sequel to ‘Terrifier’, based in turn on the short film of the same name by Damien Leone, who once again works as director and screenwriter.
- It has been sold as one of the most violent, disgusting and savage movies of recent times.
- It lasts a whopping 138 minutes, which doesn’t seem optimal for a slasher without more pretense than bringing out its special effects.
Criticism in Espinof: I have seen ‘Terrifier 2’ and its controversy is justified: it is the most disgusting, bloody and fun horror film of the year
‘Till, the crime that changed everything’ (‘Till’, 2022)
- It is directed by Chinonye Chukwu, who made his feature film debut in 2019 with ‘Clemency’.
- It is based on the true story of Emmett Louis Till and his mother’s fight for justice after his murder.
- The film has taken advantage of the 27 years of investigation carried out by Keith Beauchamp on the case, which allowed its reopening in 2004.
- In 2005, Beauchamp himself released the documentary ‘The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till’ about the same incident.
‘Irati’ (2022)
- It is the new film by Paul Urkijo, who gave us in 2017 the remarkable ‘Errementari (The Blacksmith and the Devil)’.
- Once again he has immersed himself in the rich Basque mythology to give shape to an epic fantasy with a spirit inherited from Milius’s Conan.
- It is shot in Basque and stars Edume Azkarate, Eneko Sagardoy and Itziar Ituño, among others.
- It comes to our cinemas after being unfairly ignored at the Goyas —where it received five unsuccessful nominations— and after winning the Audience Award at the Sitges Festival.
