new friday, new releases in our movie theaters. After the barrage of titles that reached us seven days ago, this May 20th the volume of releases is more discreet, but it hides a few of the most interesting titles and starring dream casts. It is possible that next week they will be buried by ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, so do not lose sight of them.
The premieres of May 20, 2022
‘The mafia tailor’ (‘The Outfit’, 2022)
-
This is the first film as director of, until now, screenwriter Graham Moore, winner of the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for his work on ‘The Imitation Game’.
-
Although it takes place in a tailor shop, the original title of the film, ‘The Outfit’, has a double meaning that refers to the Chicago mafia, which is known by that name.
-
To prepare for his role, Mark Rylance received training in tailoring techniques from the legendary tailors at Huntsman & Sons of Savile Row, London, who appeared in ‘Kingsman’.
-
Like the director, Rylance also has an Oscar. His was for best supporting actor for ‘Bridge of Spies’.
‘The weapon of deception’ (‘Operation Mincemeat’, 2021)
-
‘The weapon of deception’ is the new film by John Madden, the veteran director of titles such as ‘Shakespeare in Love’, ‘The exotic Marigold Hotel’ or ‘The Sloane Affair’.
-
The story of the film was already told in Ronald Neame’s ‘The Man Who Never Was’, which was released in 1956 and was adapted from the book of the same name by Ewen Montagu.
-
The tactical and military operation on which the film is based was to create a disinformation technique that would allow a final assault by Allied forces on Europe in 1943 without exposing themselves to potentially inordinate casualties. According to the story, Ian Fleming was the author of the operation.
-
The film has a fantastic cast led by Colin Firth, Matthew Macfayden, Kelly Macdonald, Rufus Wright, Jason Isaacs and Charlotte Hamblin.
-
Both Firth and Macfayden have played the character of Mr. Darcy in the 1995 and 2005 adaptations of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ respectively.
-
‘The Weapon of Deception’ marks the last screen appearance of actor Paul Ritter, who died before its release.
‘Five Little Wolves’ (2022)
-
‘Cinco lobitos’ marks the directorial and screenwriting debut of Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, who has been linked to the world of short films up to now.
-
The film arrives in our cinemas after triumphing at the Malaga Film Festival, where it won five awards, including best film and best screenplay.
-
The feature film stars Laia Costa, whom we have been able to see in series such as ‘Foodie Love’, ‘Cites’ or ‘Devils’ and who led the cast of ‘Victoria’, the two-hour and twenty-minute feature film shot in sequence shot directed by Sebastian Schipper.
