The recordings of the film, directed by Manolo Caro, were to begin on Tuesday, but Huerta decided to withdraw so as not to affect production and legally refute the accusations of the Mexican activist María Elena Ríos, according to what she said in a note sent to the Imagen TV channel.
“Given the impact of the recent unsubstantiated statements by María Elena Ríos and the damage they have caused, I have no choice but to withdraw from participating in the film ‘Fiesta en la Madriguera,'” the actor said in the letter dated 19 of June.
Huerta said he was leaving the project “with great sadness,” but argued that he could not allow Ríos’s actions to harm not only him, but “also the work of dozens of talented and hard-working people.”
“My focus now is simple: continue the process of restoring my reputation,” he said.
On June 9, on her social networks, Ríos accused Huerta of being a “sexual predator” and of having sexually assaulted her. Six days later, she said in a statement that Huerta withdrew her condom without her consent and used other women as a “sexual trophy.”
The saxophonist also said that she instituted a legal process against the interpreter.
Also recognized in the country for leading the fight against racism, Huerta stated on June 12 in a statement that he dated Ríos for several months in 2022 and that it was a consensual relationship “at all times.”
But “after it was over, Elena began to misrepresent our interactions,” wrote Huerta, who hired a legal team to defend herself.
