What would you do if you had a lot of money? Perhaps the majority would buy luxuries, pay debts, others would travel and a few would take the opportunity to do something for those most in need. Like Dora Moono Nyambe, a 30-year-old teacher who left her life behind to move to Africa and help 200 impoverished children gain access to education, food and health services.
A truly noble cause and a strong vocation prompted this British woman to turn her life 180 degrees to help the Mapapa community in Zambia, where in addition to helping hundreds of children and young people, she also adopted 13 children who needed it despite having three biological children.
How it all started?
In 2019, Dora traveled to Mapapa to visit a friend, but she realized the level of poverty and deprivation with which the people of that village in southern Africa live. According to her testimony, the children would go up to two days without eating, they had no access to education or places to learn. It was so that she decided that the best thing would be to leave her life behind to move there and start educating under the shade of a tree.
As time progressed and due to an idea from her daughter, Dora joined the TikTok platform to tell about her day-to-day life and show her noble work in the town. This content generated interest and motivation among Internet users, who, little by little, began to make donations to help her build a school. In addition, she ran a GoFundMe campaign to raise as much money as possible, although this was never her idea at first.
Life got better in Mapapa
One thing led to another and, when she least expected it, Dora had already raised more than 450,000 dollars, so what used to be a weak school made of mud and earth, is now a large building with 12 classrooms, a library, and a conference room. storage with supplies and materials necessary for their learning. But despite the difficult and precarious environment in which they live, Dora is very proud of every step they take, because some children have already learned to read and that makes her very happy.
In the same way, the money also improved the lives of everyone in the community, since the creation of the school generated a new source of employment for around 35 people. However, Dora says that it is not easy at all, on the contrary, it is hard work, but she assures that having a great team that supports her at all times makes the load more bearable.
What does the future hold?
Things are going from strength to strength and Dora only hopes not to lose the support of her followers, since it is due to the videos she makes, that donations, gifts and the support of the virtual community in general make this possible. The teacher continues to be completely devoted to her work and even has a book that tells her story since she arrived in Mapapa and everything she has done for the community.
Netizens applaud her, congratulate her and send her best wishes, there are even netizens who ask her permission to go in the summer to volunteer as teachers. Undoubtedly, an admirable and very noble work, Dora is the perfect example that we can all take a piece of land and improve it.
