A high school student acted like a hero when he managed to take the wheel and stop his school’s school bus after the driver passed out en route.
His incredible feat was caught on video from the bus’s security camera. The entire community of Warren, in the state of Michigan, United States, is grateful for the action of the teenager and even decorated the garden of his house with colored signs to assure him that he is a hero.
Carter Middle School students were heading home on the school bus down a busy boulevard when the driver of the shuttle began to feel unwell. The woman picked up the bus radio to announce that she would stop the unit, but she passed out before she could get the students to safety.
Fortunately, 13-year-old Dillon Reeves noticed something was wrong with the driver. Wasting no time, he approached her and could see that the woman had lost consciousness of her, so he took the wheel in her hands while he stepped on the brake decisively. As soon as he managed to stop the unit, he asked his colleagues to call the emergency services.
His quick action prevented a tragedy from happening, because, according to information from WXYZ, the police, firefighters and ambulance were able to quickly get to where the boys were and take them to safety in another truck. Superintendent Robert Livernois praised the boy’s bravery.
He stood up, assessed the situation, and saw that the driver had passed out. This was an extraordinary act of bravery. He jumped out of his seat, dropped his backpack, ran to the front, grabbed the wheel, and brought the bus to a stop.
The images really surprise us, because it is incredible how he managed to stay calm and act so well in the midst of this emergency. According to WXYZ, the authorities of his city will give him a well-deserved prize for his courage.
