Following an agreement between Marvel, Genius Brands and POW! Entertainment, Stan Lee’s cameos will return to the MCU via CGI and stock footage.
For two decades, perhaps the most notable hallmark of the MCU’s productions were the brief but recurring appearances of the so-called “father of the Marvel Universe.” Now, thanks to a new deal between Marvel, Genius Brands and POW! Entertainment reported by The Hollywood Reporter portal, we know Stan Lee’s cameos can return to the MCU through CGI and footage.

As we read on Screen Rant: “Lee’s involvement in the MCU was not relegated solely to the use of his characters, as the comic book creator became known for making cameo appearances in every MCU title, as well as in other Marvel adaptations, including Sony’s various Spider-Man franchises, Fox’s X-Men movies, and Disney’s Big Hero 6. Although Lee would die in 2018 at the age of 95, he filmed several cameos before his passing, posthumously appearing in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. Although subsequent MCU movies and series have taken care to include Lee with the help of posters and magazines in various locations, it seems that the future could have a different plan now.
What does the Stan Lee likeness deal include besides the MCU cameos?
The Hollywood Reporter reported that Marvel has signed a 20-year deal with Genius Brands International and POW! Entertainment “to license Lee’s likeness in future film and television productions, as well as in Disney theme parks, merchandise and more.”
The CEO and president of Genius Brands, Andy Heyward, spoke about the agreement: “It really ensures that Stan, through digital technology and stock footage and other ways, will live in the most important place, the Marvel movies, and the Disney theme parks. It’s a broad deal.”
The agreement gives Marvel permission to use Lee’s name, voice, likeness and signature in film and television projects, as well as to use existing images, footage and audio recordings with him. “The rights to use Lee’s name, voice, likeness and signature exclusively in theme parks, cruise lines and park merchandise were also included in the agreement. The public and parkgoers will be able to see Lee in the form of figures and toys, as well as clothing and stationery.”
