The idea of a Zero Waste life begins with a change of consciousness, where taking care of our planet is a priority, because it is our home and no one else can take care of it but us.
We are ready to unite and we want you to do it too, that’s why we put together these tips to make it much easier, based on the 7 “R”: Redesign, Reject, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle, Rot (compost).
redesign
It seeks to buy products with eco-designs, that is, materials that have sustainable manufacturing methods, which in the end are easy to recycle and respect the environment.
For example: bamboo toothbrush, menstrual cup, stainless steel straw, etc.
To reject
Do you really need it? If not, reject it! For example, if you are going to buy a coffee, it is better that you bring your own thermos, so you avoid using a plastic cup, which in the end you will only use for a few minutes and then it will go in the trash.
Reduce
Have you heard of minimalism? It is about having only the things that we really need, consuming with awareness, for example: turning off the light if we are not using it, not wasting water, not wasting food, not buying things just to have more, even if we do not use them, etc. .
Re-use
There are many things that we can reuse, such as glass bottles and jars, grocery bags, cans, old clothes to make rags, everything that can be used for DIY projects.

Repair
If you have a damaged object that no longer works, it is better to find a specialist who can repair it, and then we will not have to buy the product again. For example, clothing, if some jeans are ripped, put a patch on it, you will give it another style and a new lease on life.
Recycle
There are collection centers for recycling that are waiting for you, you can take things like notebooks that you no longer use, newspapers, cardboard boxes, books, etc.
rot (compost)
You can make compost from home, but if you don’t want to or wouldn’t have a way to use it, just always separate the waste. Here is an image shared by the government of Mexico City:
