I recently had the opportunity to visit the Autonomous City of Melilla and, without a doubt, I had to tell you about her. And it is that she has pleasantly surprised me, so much so that I am looking forward to returning and continuing to discover corners of a place full of history, communities and that are worth knowing.
Thus, today I am going to talk about six of the corners that most caught my attention, without prejudice to those that remained pending. In this way, we continue to know cities of the geography like others that we have seen like Palencia, Soria, Teruel, Cuenca…
The old city
We begin with one of the jewels of the city, its Melilla la Vieja. A wonderfully preserved fortification full of museums (all free) and places of maximum interest such as the Cuevas del Conventico, which are wonderful, where it is worth getting lost, enjoying the views from the Lighthouse and letting yourself be filled with all its magic.
Spain Square
One of the nerve centers of the city is Plaza España where we can take the classic photo of the Melilla poster and get an idea of what day-to-day life is like in the city.
Modernist buildings
Wherever you see it, Melilla is one of the best exponents of the Spanish modernist style of the early 20th century that we have and you will be left speechless seeing the buildings that it has along the streets adjacent to Plaza España.
Cervantes Square
A very charming place is Plaza Cervantes where we can see a statue of the writer surrounded by columns full of colored tiles that give it exceptional charm.
Hernandez Park
Taking a walk through the Hernández Park is one of the appointments that cannot be missed on your trip to the Autonomous City of Melilla and which is located in the Modernist Ensanche.
Port
And another walk that cannot be missed is through the port and, yes, why not, along the beach. And it is that in Melilla the sea is the protagonist throughout the year and is one of its attractions, for water sports and outdoor activities and where we can find hotels such as the Hotel Melilla Puerto, Affiliated by Meliá (110 euros).
