With the premiere of the first season of She-Hulk, we are reminded of a passage in the pages of the Giant Emerald, where she and Spider-Man join forces in court to teach J. Jonah Jameson a lesson.
She-Hulk’s first season has kicked off, and its inspiration is the debut arc of writer Dan Slott, who in 2004 was tapped to take creative control of the great Emerald lawyer, who teamed up once again with Spider. -Man, who helped him in a legal issue.

In an interview with the official Marvel site, Dan Slott pointed out that in his first opportunity as a screenwriter for the She-Hulk title, he wanted Jennifer Walters to cross paths with Spider-Man.
And what better time to do it than by suing J. Jonah Jameson, the grumpy owner and publisher of the Daily Bugle.
Spider-Man vs. J. Jonah Jameson: Order in Court!
“The way I sold it was ‘Ally McBeal with muscles.’ What would it be like to be a superhero, to be a lawyer in a world of superheroes? We hadn’t seen this in Marvel… All she was dealing with was real-world law, and the fun of this version of She-Hulk was that we brought in superhuman law”.
Slott pondered how to take Spider-Man with She-Hulk on an adrenaline-pumping, fun-filled adventure, and the answer was to put a stop to the smears from JJ Jameson, who has been obsessed with smearing Spidey for years.
“She Hulk #4 really was my chance to go in and do a full edit of a Spider-Man comic… Everything I ever wanted to do with Spider-Man, we’re going to do in this comic.Slott recalled. “If I never write Spider-Man again, I will have gotten everything I wanted here. so that was kind of fun”.
In the fourth issue of She-Hulk, Spider-Man teams up with Jennifer Walters to sue J. Jonah Jameson for all the libel printed in The Daily Bugle over the years.
Big demand means big (and crazy) settlement
However, problems arise for the superhero duo when Spider-Man refuses to reveal his secret identity in exchange for possible payment.
“I remember reading: I think it was an issue of Avengers by Roger Sterns where he put his retina into a scanner and it registered him as Spider-Man, and the whole thing stayed out of the books. And I say, ‘The Avengers are like a real government agency back then.’ Then you should be able to say, ‘I can prove in a court of law that I am Spider-Man. Bring the scanner from the Avengers; now I can sue J. Jonah Jameson.’ And that was the fun.”.
Spidey achieves a court victory, but the wall-crawler is willing to forgo a large paycheck if Jameson publicly apologized in the Daily Bugle’s post Chicken Dress!
