With the writers’ strike in its second month, one of the series affected is ‘The White Lotus’ whose season 3 will have to wait until 2024/2025 at the latest, as recently stated by HBO’s Head of Drama Francesca Orsi. But the delay with the series does not prevent Mike White, its creator, already have in mind where a new installment of the anthology would take place.
Specifically, the idea that he manages is to set a hypothetical new season (4?) in Australia. This was stated during a press conference at the Sydney Film Festival, the great city of the oceanic country. There, White stated:
“My dream would be to visit every continent, so yeah, this is like its own continent, basically. We have to come to Australia if we continue. It would be so much fun. There’s obviously a tremendous amount of talent here and the beauty is undeniable, so it seems like it ticks all the boxes.”
from continent to continent
In this way, after a first season in Hawaii, United States, a second taking place in Sicily, Italy, and a third that will be set somewhere in Thailand, we will have a new continental leap in which we continue to explore the misadventures of wealthy tourists and staff of the global franchise of hotels and resorts.
By the way, this hypothetical Australian destination is something also shared by Jennifer Coolidge, Tanya McQuoid herself from ‘The White Lotus’. A character that will continue to be around in some way or another in the series and with whom, White assures, they have even been considering a prequel so that he would continue to appear in the hotel universe:
“I think it’s absolutely possible, we were just talking about it. It’s a fun idea and making Jennifer, I don’t know, 20 years younger will be fun too. I think Jennifer is like “Sure, let’s do it!”
Let’s remember that since the end of season 2, when we saw Tanya’s death between tragic and clumsy, they began to talk about possibilities to pull the thread around it. This opened the doors to not forget the character and its possible appearance even if it was in the form of flashbacks.
