In the hangover of San Sebastián, with the good reception of ‘As bestas’, Rodrigo Sorogoyen has revealed that he has not given up on his series on the Spanish Civil War. This has been confirmed at the Iberseries Platino Industria, an event that brings together industry professionals in Madrid.
Half a year after Movistar Plus+ canceled the project, the filmmaker has announced that will continue with ‘The War’ and, in fact, the plan now is to take it to international markets to find producing partners along with Caballo Films, the production company of Sorogoyen and Eduardo Villanueva, after recovering the rights.

As we already knew, the intention of the series is to focus on those anonymous who lived through the warlike conflict that was the backbone of Spain for the following decades. Sorogoyen makes it clear that making a series about this “It is not only fascinating, but in a way a must. A people that knows its history is healthier, freer and more modern.”
Each of the six episodes of the series will be independent, taking us to six different corners of Spain in different seasons of the year. In fact, the shooting will cover a whole year.
The director also promises that the series will pick up the style of ‘Riot Police’ with its tension and search for realism: “I want the audience to have the feeling that the characters are being filmed by someone who has a camera right there and right there at the same time.”
“We will not have bloodthirsty executioners and innocent victims. Fiction is more captivating when it explores the gray areas of the characters and that is more like reality.”
