Let’s try to forget the news that since October 2022 the DC Universe has given us with new presidents or unexpected departures. The story directed by David F. Sandberg is cooked apart. And it works well either within the Gods and Monsters Chapter, or as a separate story.
Angry Goddesses and Family Concerns
The plot begins with the appearance of two of the three villains, Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), the daughters of Atlas, who are willing to do everything to recover the gifts of the Gods, in the hands of Billy Batson and his family, who don’t have a good time as superheroes, after the people of Philadelphia don’t have much trust in them.
In their facet as regular people, Billy Batson seeks to keep his brothers together, who begin to disperse into different interests. Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer / Adam Brody) wants to get the attention of a new girl named Anne (Rachel Zegler), Mary (Grace Fulton) focuses on her going to college.
Let’s not forget the restless Eugene (Ian Chen/Ross Butler), the tender Darla (Faithe Herman/Meagan Good) and Pedro (Jovan Armand/DJ Cotrona), who begins to define his sexual orientation, without falling into stereotypes or corporate agendas. .
David F. Sandberg avoids complex connections with the rest of the DC Universe and returns to the basics that worked for him in the first installment, giving more importance to the human aspect of the heroes, who know that powers do not make the right man.
SMASH Verdict ⭐⭐⭐⭐
More colorful than its first part, with adrenaline, emotion and humor not far-fetched, Shazam!: The Fury of the Gods becomes a sequel with emotion and heart, which makes it the funniest option in the DC Universe.
Once again, the villains steal the camera again in a story where the concept of family is reaffirmed and the balance between the family side and the hero facet of Billy Batson and his adoptive brothers are resolved.
An important point for the production is to bring villains of recent creation, which do not yet have their counterparts in the pages of the comics, which is a success.
As we always recommend, do not lose detail of the post-credit scenes, which will guide us to the future plans of the DC Universe.
Let’s hope that the cast of Shazam remains in these new plans for the DC Universe, since this addition will give a fresh and fun approach to the proposal that both James Gunn and Peter Safran are preparing.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! The Fury of the Gods is already available in movie theaters in the Mexican Republic and Latin America.
