They say that heroes are everywhere and knowing stories about them inspires us to dedicate our time and effort to help those who may need us at a certain moment in our lives.
Such as the story of Nicholas Bostic, which combines reflection with the importance of selflessly serving others. Originally from the United States, Bostic, 25, is a pizza delivery boy who didn’t mind walking into a burning house in order to save five children trapped inside. A heroic act that was praised by the authorities.
The events took place in Lafayette, a city located in the state of Indiana, on July 11. At 12:00 am, Bostic was driving in a residential area for a regular pizza delivery when he noticed flames coming from a home.
Given the alarming situation, Bostic did not hesitate to enter the interior of the house through the back door. His screams woke up the four brothers, from 1 to 18 years old, who slept on the second floor of the house.
Armed with courage, Bostic managed to get them out to a safe place. However, once outside, the eldest of the brothers revealed to his rescuer that his six-year-old little sister was still inside the house.
Determined to undertake a new heroic act, the young man covered his nose and mouth with a shirt and braved the fire, once again, to rescue the little girl trapped inside. Fortunately, the mission was successful, as both managed to jump out of a window, located on the second floor.
In body camera footage of one of the officers shared by the Lafayette Police Department, Bostic can be seen carrying the girl, up the side of the burning house, and handing her over to first responders before medics treated her. in a nearby garden.

However, Bostic’s heroism did not end there, because, despite being injured, as soon as he handed over the little girl to the care of the paramedics, he did not stop asking about the girl’s state of health:
Nicholas Bostic: Is the baby okay? Please tell me the baby is okay.
Officers: You did good, mate.
Due to severe smoke inhalation and some injuries to his right arm when he jumped out the window, the hero without a cape was taken to a hospital, where he stayed for two days. Fortunately, he has already been discharged. In addition, the five children managed to get out without major injuries.
I’m glad I was there. Yes [la] opportunity came back and had to do it, I would. I was in the right place at the right time and I guess I was the right person.
According to the newspaper Lafayette Journal & Courier, the Fire Department believes the house fire started with an ash bucket on the porch that was not completely extinguished. David and Tiera Barrett, parents of four of the five rescued teens (one of the teens was sleeping at home), had been out to dinner when the fire started and returned home to find it engulfed in flames and surrounded by emergency units.
David Barrett expressed his gratitude to Bostic, whom he already considers part of the family for his noble and courageous actions:
I literally told him that he is now part of our family. And he totally agreed with that. Once we settle in somewhere, we’ll invite him and his girlfriend over for dinner.
As for recognition by authorities, Nicholas Bostic’s remarkable act of bravery was cited in a statement via the official Lafayette Police Department Twitter account. In addition, a tribute will be paid in his honor on August 2 at the Lafayette Aviators’ National Night Out.
