Madisynn took She-Hulk episode 4 by surprise, and Patty Guggenheim, the actress who plays Wong’s clueless friend, reveals more details about this funny character
In the fourth episode of She-Hulk, an unexpected heroine (so to speak) has taken the Marvel Cinematic Universe by storm, and that’s Madisynn with a Y and two N’s, but she’s not where you think.

Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk Episode 4 breakout character, played by Patty Guggenheim, is the perfect foil for the straight-faced green lawyer Jennifer Walters as well as her TV friend and Sorcerer Supreme, Wong.
Do you remember where you live? Nope! And that won’t stop her from stealing every scene she’s in.
Marvel.com caught up with Guggenheim to talk all things Marvel and Madisynn. He also has great ideas about where Madisynn could go next.
Guggenheim explains that he currently lives in Chris Hemsworth’s old apartment, joking: “I think it would be fun to do anything with Thor. Just because I want to be in that world, but I also want to give him his email”.
Marvel.com: The biggest question from the start is how does it feel to be everyone’s favorite new Marvel character?
Patty Guggenheim: I don’t think I’ve fully processed what that means. It feels fun to know that something I did resonates with people on different levels.
First of all, people are excited about life in general right now, people just want to be there. I feel like people see themselves in her because she falls into this world and then dates the Sorcerer Supreme.
It’s been so much fun hearing people’s enthusiasm for her and the memes are hilarious.
Marvel.com: Going back to the beginning, how did you first get involved with She-Hulk and Madisynn?
Patty Guggenheim: Kat Coiro [quien dirigió el Episodio 4] and I had worked on a show together… so she knew about me for this role. She called me and I auditioned via video chat and that’s how I came into this world.
[Fue] during the pandemic and you’re auditioning over video chat and you never know what’s going to happen. In one of the last shots, my cat jumped on the desk and was in the scene with me. [ Risas ] It was fun getting my cat involved.
Marvel.com: What’s your cat’s name?
Patty Guggenheim: JW Stink.
Marvel.com: When you first read the scripts, what was your initial reaction to Madisynn?
Patty Guggenheim: [Su descripción en el guión] It was the key to everything. [En el guión decía] “always a problem” and it unlocked something in me. I think all the episodes are singularly very funny.
This episode really hit me in such a deep way. I actually ended up meeting the writer, Melissa Hunter. When I found out that she had written it, I was like, oh my gosh. We talked and she was excited that she was someone that she knew and I was excited that she was someone that she knew. I was impressed. she is brilliant then [la escritora principal] Jessica Gao and Kat, I felt like it was such a great combination of brilliant minds bringing something to life.
Marvel.com: It’s hard not to notice that much of the team behind the scenes with female She-Hulkes. What was she like in that kind of environment?
Patty Guggenheim: It was really nice. You feel that [hay] a short form of communication, and especially working with Kat… it allowed us to play a lot. It was just a very playful environment, which can also seem weird and funny. I love seeing women, showrunners, directors, producers, like they’re really there and they like to watch, take care of you, which was really nice.
Marvel.com: How did you work with the creative team to identify the exact pronunciation of Madisynn’s words? Every line you say like her is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard.
Patty Guggenheim: I walked into a place where I was in a lot of different situations, you know, like college or a drunk woman. I think when you see something on the page that says, “Madisynn with two N’s and a Y, but it’s not where you think.” There was even extra me in the word [en el guión]. You’re like, ‘yeah, I know who he is’. Kat really left me [ampliar]. We’d do it a couple of times and then she’d say, just do whatever you want. I believe that freedom gives you places to discover. It gives you the opportunity to discover things that you did not plan.
Marvel.com: Do you have a favorite line to read of everything? The internet has clearly picked its favorites, but do you have a favorite?
Patty Guggenheim: I love the line that goes, “Oh yeah. Of course, I will do it.” And then the last scene with Wong, him saying “yak milk” because it was all improvised. He said “yak milk” and I almost lost it. And the way he says it, and he’s so confident in this delicious mixed drink, and then I’m like, “Do you have any of that in here?”
Marvel.com: I wanted to ask about the last scene, because when I talked to Kat, she mentioned that it was completely improvised that day and you had some extra time to shoot and she said, just do it. Can you talk about filming that?
Patty Guggenheim: She had the idea to put this label. She literally grabbed [una manta] of her daughter and said, “We’re going to use this.” I was like, “Yeah, yeah we are.” [El equipo] made some popcorn and then we sat down and, you know, Benny [Wong] it’s so funny and cool.
We were kind of like, what are we going to do? [Kat] he was asked, what were they talking about? Brunch has arrived. So this started off as a back and forth of me trying to explain to him what brunch is. Then it turned into these drinks and it was so much fun.
I feel like we could have done that for seven weeks straight, like going back and forth about the silliest things. We weren’t sure what we were going to see [en la televisión]I love how it was a small slice of how their meeting place was in Kamar-Taj.
Marvel.com: Now, everyone I’ve talked to about Benedict Wong has said he’s the nicest person to film. What was your experience working with him as a scene partner?
Patty Guggenheim: He’s a dream scene partner. I love him so much. He is great. Funny, talented and professional. He has this thing where he’s very present and you just want to know how he’s going to react to things. You just want to throw things so he can react because he’s so brilliant. He was like, yeah, go ahead, do your thing. And then from there, he just opened the floodgate for this dumb little girl trying to get into that steel trap of a man.
Marvel.com: We’ve seen a lot of photos and videos of you and Jameela Jamil doing it off-screen as well. What’s it like to do that with her and bring your characters to life outside of the fourth wall?
@jameelajamil I love her. #shehulk #titania #madisynn

Patty Guggenheim: I met Jameela at the premiere and instantly [hicimos clic], like, let’s go. She is brilliant too. And, you know, just like everyone else in this cast, she was like, I want to play like these people. Let’s just play.
And I was like, yeah, come on. So it has been a very fun and different opportunity. Of course they get together and make TikToks. I want to do much more with her. She is very funny.
Marvel.com: The fan reaction has clearly been through the roof. Is there anything you saw that made you laugh or something you’re thinking about, I can’t believe the internet made this up and it’s about me?
Patty Guggenheim: So many things. I mean, Thanos and me. And did you see that?
Marvel.com: Yes. Do you think she could defeat Thanos?
Patty Guggenheim: I know I could! It’s funny to see the Infinity Stones with a drink in hand, those really made me laugh. It has been very, very entertaining and very funny.
Marvel.com: Are you prepared, probably for the rest of your life, for people to stop you and call you MADISYNN?
Patty Guggenheim: Yes. I’m ready now. If I’m 95 and it’s still happening, maybe not. I think it’s just amazing. That’s what’s so fun about the Marvel universe, in general, everyone is involved and interested and excited and it’s just a breeding ground for energy.
It feels like real life magic when people are excited about stuff like that. Yes. So I would love that and [deletrearé Madisynn] with them.
