Although their films are the ones that make the most noise, they also there is a lot of talent working on Disney TV series: ‘Gravity Falls’, ‘Star against the forces of evil’ or ‘Amphibilandia’ are part of this new batch of animated series. ‘Owl House’like their companions, too wastes imagination on all four sides, although Disney+ has been hard pressed to bring us this season 2.
the magic of light
Luz Noceda is a teenager who should have spent the holidays in a summer camp but ends up going through a portal to the Boiling Islands. Disoriented, she ends up at the Owl House where He meets Eda, a feared sorceress who is under a terrible curse. and that, to her surprise, he agrees to help her get back to her world.
‘Owl House’ (‘The Owl House’) is an animated series on Disney Channel Created by Dana Terrace (‘Duck adventures’). In Spain, its first two seasons are available on Disney+ but it also has one more season of three episodes, which have been announced as the last of the series.
‘Owl House’ is a series for all audiences in the best sense of the wordas it has elements to appeal to a younger audience but its plots and characters are complex enough to appeal to an older audience as well.
On the one hand, we have the classic elements of any good fantasy adventure: a character who travels to another world, magical beings, magic schools, spells, curses and a mysterious villain who gradually reveals himself as a real threat.
We will see Luz, our protagonist, to learn more about magicabout the history of that world to which he has ended up and about herself while trying to return to his dimension.
Although it may seem a priori that the series does not revolutionize a genre of which we have already seen many variants, the story is fresh and takes great care of the details. Especially in how the characters behave, who learn the importance of empathy and effort to understand feelings alien instead of returning to the cliché that the protagonist “is special” and, therefore, better than the others.
In fact, we can perfectly consider it a happy place, since the characters are so adorable and it’s hard not to love them: Luz, Eda, Rey, Amity, Willow, Gus, Lilith…even Hooty! When you watch a new episode you know that they will make you smile with their silliness and tender moments.
history has soul and that makes each new adventure even more enjoyable, where there will be no lack of humor and the occasional nod to the fantastic genre. Season 1 serves as a presentation of some of the protagonists as well as the world itself, but Season 2 launches fully into the open conflict against that feared antagonist who will not make things easy for our heroes.
Furthermore, it is the first Disney series to feature an openly bisexual main character (nothing of queerbaiting this time). Too bad the Mouse Company has mistreated the series quite a bit, clipping its wings so soon and bringing this season 2 more than a year after its US premiere.
‘Owl House’ is a true happy place full of whimsical adventures and huggable characters. One of the most beautiful and fun series that can currently be seen on Disney+ (let’s see if it doesn’t take so long to bring us the episodes of the last season).
