After the mess with ‘Cowboy Bebop’ and its sudden cancellation, well, fans of ‘one piece‘ The truth is that they don’t have them all with them regarding the live action series that Netflix is preparing. The fact that the platform hasn’t really gotten wet yet to set a release date or has taught too much does not give too much confidence and has anime fans biting their nails.
A few days ago there were several rumors about disastrous results in screenings with the public, but although apparently they were false leaks, they have put us on alert again. So between that and the doubts of the fans, in the end his own came out Eiichiro Oda to reaffirm their confidence in the new ‘One Piece’.
We’re all in the same boat
Oda doesn’t let himself be seen too much, but writing does write and he has taken advantage of these days to send a letter to the fans to try to clear up our doubts. As the creator of ‘One Piece’ explains, one of the reasons he agreed to make the series was so he could oversee it while he’s still active.
We already knew that all the scripts have passed through Oda’s hands and that he has been very involved in all the processes from casting, post-production, to refining the tone, and even visited the set last summer. Besides is credited as executive producer and the changes that have been made to the story would have been with his approval. And if it takes longer for things to turn out well, then let them take time, but apparently he is very happy with Netflix, Tomorrow Studios and the entire ‘One Piece’ team.
“Netflix has dedicated a lot of resources to the production. It was announced that the series would premiere in 2023, but they have promised me that it will not be done until I am satisfied,” says Oda.
So it seems that in the end the last word with ‘One Piece’ is held by Oda, although the mangaka also acknowledges that not everything has been smooth sailing and that working with Hollywood has also been “somewhat frustrating” due to cultural differences and “objectives” when it comes to entertaining the public. But well, it seems that the journey is having a happy ending and the team is “perfectly blended”, without drama in Netflix’s East Blue.
A long time ago the premiere was rumored for August of this year, and then it seemed that it was going to go to September… and the truth is that right now the thing is still up in the air. Because it seems that perhaps the post-production is taking longer than expected so that everything is as Oda wants. And if the creator of ‘One Piece’ is satisfied with the actors and everything that is being done with the series, well what buts are we going to get out of him, right?
The other great bomb that Oda has left us has been to confirm that the Netflix series of ‘One Piece’ will finally consist of 8 episodes and that they are “at the end of the process, about to finish”. Let’s see if it’s true and we finally set sail on the Going Merry, or at least they let us see something more than the first poster with the arrival of a little trailer sooner rather than later.
