stretching the gum is, since its inception, one of our favorite podcasts. We are faithful followers of Victoria Martín and Carolina Iglesias, two of the comics that represent the generational change of humorand that they are the ones who present this interview program in which only women have a place and that has given us moments for history such as the interview with Chelo García Cortés.
For more than 80 programs the podcast has been a space for feminist struggle and diversity with representation of the group LGTBIQ+, so much so that the Ministry of Equality awarded Carolina Iglesias the Arcoíris award. But last week everything went wrong after they invited their delivery of the Summer Edition to Patricia Sornosa.
Twitter spoke and after seeing what Patricia Sornosa has on her profile, some of her jokes related to the trans collective, the two presenters were accused of being transphobic. Carol and Vicky replied (here’s everything they said about it), and it seemed that the waters of the controversy were beginning to calm down. Until now.
The new controversy that attacks Victoria Martín and Carolina Iglesias from “Stretching the gum”
It all started with a comment from Victoria Martín: “aunt, my blackberry underarm smells. I smell what has been the sobaquillo. I am a heavy sweater.” At any other time perhaps it would have gone more unnoticed but now that they are in the eye of the hurricane, the hare jumped. And since Twitter is magical but also judge and executioner, the sentence soon came at the hands of the KifKif association.
“My armpit smells like blackberries”
White cocks that go progressive being racist. Nothing new.
And those of you who say that it is not a racist comment, who are you really to value it?pic.twitter.com/owCo7WiDLo

For example, Morad has joined the association on his Instagram account, and other Twitter profiles:

It pains me to see that many of those who pointed out their attitude towards the controversy of transphobicity now defend them with arguments such as “it’s their type of humor” or “it’s an expression that has been said all their lives”…what has been said, since it doesn’t affect them they don’t give a shit https://t.co/dCuWV5vkUV

But for others the controversy is nothing more than a question of language, and others think that the reaction to this comment is the result of a gratuitous attack on the presenters:
Me thinking that Psychology of Language was useless and look at the one that has been confused by an ambiguity of speech segmentation, Victoria says «I smell the “black armpit”» being “black armpit” a colloquial expression to refer to an unshaven armpit. https://t.co/bgzx9ss99a

It was the turn of these aunts and they are not going to stop to take absolutely everything out of context until they sink them… there is nothing worse than Twitter woke up https://t.co/KyT6wVHBZc

There are also listeners who have accused the association that they accuse of racism, of being racist for the expression “white cocks” with which they denounced Victoria Martin’s comment.
They complain of racism and use the term “white” in a derogatory way. One more little trip on the rudderless ship of the progressive. https://t.co/wu6OtF0yQ8

We will not go into judging whether canceling the two comics is necessary or exaggerated because this is not an opinion piece, but rather informative. But what is clear is that, as with everything that is successful (stretching the gum has two Ondas Awards, the first in 2021), everything Carol and Vicky do and say will continue to be scrutinized.
