Carlos Alonso Ojea directs ‘The criminal readers club’, a horror film set in the university, with a script by Carlos García Miranda, which adapts his own homonymous novel, will mean the first Spanish slasher produced by Netflix and has been filming for a while in Toledo, joining other products on the platform that respond to the expectation and success of ‘Scream’ (2022). Today Its first trailer has been presented at Geeked 2022 week.

‘The Criminal Book Club’ features eight young college students who meet weekly in a book club to share their passion for horror literature. One day they are accomplices in a costume joke that ends in a fatal accident and a pact of silence. After that event, the group of readers will be threatened by an anonymous writer who wants to reveal a dark secret. ANDThe stalker threatens to post a bloody horror novel based on them on social media. Netflix already released a small teaser at the beginning of filming.

The film will follow the trend of presenting a murderer dressed as a clown, and although there is no release date, ‘The criminal readers club’ is Ojeda’s second foray into the genre after having co-directed with 11 other directors the group horror film by episodes ‘The innocents’. The film is shot mainly in the city of Toledo, in locations such as the San Pedro Mártir building or the Tavera Hospitaland is a Brutal Media production for Netflix.
