“(The platform) has mysterious ways of doing things, They never really explain… There are things they call ‘the algorithm’, and in my head the algorithms are these little gnomes that live in a dark room”.
Gaiman explained that once the content platform resolves the details of the algorithms, they will finally have a confirmed date to premiere the first season of Sandman.
“The people at (the platform) open the door and pitch their offer to the algorithms, then slip a piece of paper under the door that says, ‘You can pitch it in November.’”
Gaiman gives his space to transgender characters
Since the launch of Sandman in 1988, more than 30 years have passed in which the world has changed radically, not only in the way of producing series, but also the vulnerable sectors of the population have gained important spaces, including transgender people. .
In the cast of Sandman, non-binary actor Mason Alexander Oark will play Desire, one of the Eternals (Endless) in the Sandman mythology, whose first arc in the comics is focused on a trans woman named Wanda, a character inspired by one of Gaiman’s friends.
Neil Gaiman himself spoke of the drama he saw with his friend Wanda, and the hell they lived 30 years ago not being accepted by society.
“I was seeing them having to deal with society being mean to them. Watching them die, and their parents cut off their hair and bury them with their name and gender they were born with, not the one they were using. I thought it was the worst thing in the world. There was no respect or courtesy and he was unwilling to see another person’s point of view”
