The Other Jesus Film Scorsese Directed
The figure of Jesus Christ seems to have a strong attraction in Scorsese, who in 1988 shot the legendary The Last Temptation of the Christfilm starring Willem Dafoein the role of Christ.
In various countries of Catholic belief, the film raised great controversy by presenting the story of a totally earthly Christ who doubts and questions God, and lives a full romance with Maria Magdalena. For this film, Martin Scorsese was nominated for best director.
The Last Temptation of the Christ is the adaptation of the novel by the philosopher and also a poet Nikos Kazantzakiswho wrote it two years before he died in 1957. The script was written by paul schraderwho had already written for Scorsese the stories of Taxi Driver and Wild bull.
When the film was shot, Willem Dafoe was 33 years old, just the age of Jesus when he died crucified. The cast of the film was truly luxurious: Harvey Keitel like judas, barbara hershey like Mary Magdalene harry dean stanton like Saul and then Paul, Verna Bloom (Maria), Victor Argo (Peter), and even David Bowie Like Pontius Pilate.
Worth noting is the soundtrack composed by peter gabriel, who used oriental and current instruments to create enigmatic and captivating sounds. This undoubtedly helped the film to have the right atmosphere.
