The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise has been running aground for some time now, but it hasn’t been precisely because few projects have been launched within it. One of the most talked about was the female spin-off in which margot robbie I was going to assume the leading role in the show, but now you can forget about seeing it, since the actress herself has confirmed that it will not go ahead.
“I guess they don’t want to do it”
Robbie is currently in the middle of promoting ‘Babylon’, the new feature film by Damian Chazelle, which has led him to chat with Vanity Fair. Many topics have been discussed there, but what interests us now is this comment about the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie that he was going to lead:
We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, quite a while ago, to have a movie with an all-female cast – not quite, but a different story – that we thought would be really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it.
The film would have reunited Robbie with Christina Hodsona screenwriter with whom she had previously collaborated on ‘Birds of Prey’, and the last we heard from her is that Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed this year that they were working on two projects within the saga. It is seen that they have finally ruled out the one that the actress recently seen in ‘Amsterdam’ was going to star in.
Nor is this decision surprising, both due to the fact that many female reboots have not performed too well at the box office and due to the fact that this August the return of ted elliotone of the creators of Jack Sparrow and also a screenwriter for the first four installments, to work on one of the scripts.
Now the question that remains is whether there is any possibility that Johnny Depp come back as Jack Sparrow. Personally, I think the saga doesn’t make sense without him, so if they don’t want to have his presence -something I can perfectly understand-, leave it alone.
