Since dawn, a large crowd has lined up to attend the funeral service in Memphis. Many brought flowers or photos of the singer who died at the age of 54 on January 12.
The ceremony was to culminate in a procession to Graceland’s “Meditation Garden,” home to the graves of Elvis Presley, several members of his family and now Lisa Marie, his only daughter with actress Priscilla Presley.
On a stage where a photo of the deceased was imposed, the singer of Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan, and later Alanis Morissette and Axl Rose, leader of Guns N’ Roses, paid tribute to her. A choir sang gospel music.
“Mourning is the price of love,” said the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, a friend of Lisa Marie Presley, attributing her words to Queen Elizabeth II of England, who died on September 8.
The singer died after being rushed to a California hospital after suffering cardiac arrest.
The Graceland residence, where Elvis Presley was found unconscious on August 16, 1977, before being taken to hospital and dying at the age of 42, has become a mythical place.
It was transformed into a museum that is visited daily by tourists and admirers. It was directed by Lisa Marie Presley until her death.
Lisa Maria Presley had four husbands, including Nicolas Cage and Michael Jackson, and four children. She released three albums in her career, without the success of her father, one of the most famous artists of all time.
His remains will rest alongside those of his son, Benjamin Keough, who committed suicide in 2020.
