Grace Kelly is one of the most memorable women of the 20th century, not only did she become one of the most recognizable actresses in Hollywood, she is also part of history as one of the most prominent royals.
Grace was born on November 12, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up with a great love for the performing arts that made her an international icon.
Despite this, she decided to abandon her acting career to focus on royal life after marrying Prince Raniero III of Monaco and raising their children, Princess Caroline, Prince Albert and Princess Stephanie.
She is currently remembered as a fashion icon and one of the brightest stars in Hollywood. Many of her films, including “Rear Window” and “To Catch a Thief,” are considered modern day classics.
His move from Hollywood to the principality of Monaco
Grace Kelly studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and worked her way up in the industry as a business model. She subsequently worked in Broadway plays where she caught the attention of television producers and later film directors, who began to ask her to appear in their films.
It was precisely on the big screen where her career as an actress began to stand out, some of her most emblematic works were her collaborations with the legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock.
Despite achieving a consolidated career in Hollywood, Grace met Prince Raniero, with whom she fell deeply in love, it was then that she decided to abandon her film career.
In 1956, Kelly decided to marry him, in what would become one of the most remembered royal weddings in history, and also one of the most expensive.
The wedding of Grace Kelly and Raniero de Monaco
Grace Kelly’s dress was custom designed by costume designer Helen Rose and gifted to the actress by the MGM company.
The piece was decorated with pearls and was “built in four complex parts” and was complemented with a 90-meter-long veil.
The star-studded ceremony was held at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Monaco, with approximately 600 guests in attendance, including celebrities Cary Grant and Aristotle Onassis.
Only the best foods were served at the reception, and guests dined on champagne, caviar and, for dessert, a 200-pound wedding cake.
It was after the wedding that Grace decided to retire from acting to dedicate herself full time to her family, however, 10 years after getting married she tried to return to the big screen.
He would star in another Alfred Hitchcock film titled “Marie”, but just a few months after his participation was announced, the Palace of Monaco reported that he would not be in it.
The death of Grace Kelly
Grace Kelly died at the age of 52, after being in a car accident in 1982 while taking her daughter Princess Stephanie to Paris, France.
The vehicle in which they were traveling flew down the side of a mountain, plummeting about 120 feet. Her daughter Estefanía was slightly injured, but Kelly suffered a brain hemorrhage that took her life.
The accident gave rise to all kinds of conspiracy theories, just like with Lady Di. Many said it was strange that Kelly decided to drive herself, instead of having a chauffeur. It was also speculated that Kelly suffered a stroke and that was what caused the accident.
