The actor Gérard Depardieu was accused by 13 women of rape and sexual assaults, according to the French outlet Mediapart.
Said medium compiled the testimonies of these women who would have suffered abuse between 2004 and 2022.
During those years, the 74-year-old actor would have taken advantage of his popularity to approach women from their environment: make-up artists, actresses and other departments, and “he put his hand into their underwear, their crotch, their buttocks or their chests. She also made obscene sexual comments and sometimes insistent moans,” according to the French outlet.
The newspaper also alleges that the “sexualized and misogynistic environment” present in these shoots allowed the actor to commit these acts, even in front of other co-workers.
The actor has not responded directly to these accusations by the French media, but his lawyers did, who “formally denies all the accusations that may be tried” and describes Gérard as “a gentleman who likes to woo, opposed to all forms of violence and extremely modest in sexual matters”.
None of these women cited by Mediapart denounced the actor, but three of them gave their testimony to justice, according to the newspaper.
While, The Paris prosecutor’s office declared last Wednesday that it had not “received any new complaints to date”and that the open investigation continues in July 2020, due to the demand of the actress Charlotte Arnould.
Arnould accused Depardieu of raping her twice in August 2018 at the actor’s house, when she was 22 years old.
