One day, shortly after, he was working on some soccer fields seven. That afternoon the referee of the game that was about to be played did not arrive, so, in his absence, he decided to act as referee and the doors of destiny were opened to him.
From there he made every effort to become professional. And he did it. Of course, Karen Díaz was an engineer and dedicated herself to her profession. She had a good salary and a stable life, but when she got out of it, she refereed.
Little by little, both activities ceased to be compatible and he had to choose. In her work she earned four times more than refereeing, but she preferred the difficult path, because life is only one and it is only worthwhile if you pursue your dreams.
In 2016, he directed his first match in Liga MX. Then came the Central American Games in Barranquilla and the CONCACAF U-20 Pre-World Cup.
Karen Díaz is one of the two professional referees in the history of Mexican soccer. In 2016, she directed her first match in Liga MX and since then she has not stopped.
It participated, among other competitions, in the 2018 Central American Games in Barranquilla, in Colombia, in the CONCACAF U-20 Pre-World Cup, in a CONCACAF Champions League final, and in the 2021 Arab Cup. 2020 was the first woman to referee a Mexican championship final, a role she repeated in 2021.
Today, she feels responsible for showing that she chose well and for returning that trust to those who bet on her. Her story is proving him right and she has just been called up to go to the World Cup in Qatar this winter. After her, many more will come.
Why do we choose it?
For becoming, with her work, a sports and inclusion reference for those several hundred Mexican girls who want to follow in her footsteps in arbitration.
