Although we have been here for half a year now and the strong animated releases have not yet reached us (the most we have managed to scratch at the moment are ‘Suzume’, ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Super Mario Bros’), Netflix is already advancing details of some of its most powerful projects: it has shown the first images of ‘Orion and the Dark’ and has set the date for ‘Chicken Run 2’.
THE 10 BEST SERIES OF THE DECADE (2010-2019)
Night travelers and chickens
First of all, the platform showed the first images of ‘Orion an the Dark’, the new animated film written by Charlie Kaufman from ‘Anomalisa’. It is a co-production with DreamWorks directed by Sean Charmatz, which will adapt Emma Yarlett’s children’s books and is scheduled to be released in 2024.
As for the story, we know it will be a family comedy with dark touches about Orion (Jacob Tremblay), a neurotic elementary school boy who is afraid of heights, animals, the dark… So much so that in the end a strange and dark creature (Paul Walter Hauser) will have to come and take him away on a night trip that will face him against his own fears.
On the other hand, Netflix reviewed its closest animated releases at the Annecy Festival, such as ‘Nimona’, ‘The monkey king’, ‘Leo’ or the series ‘Blue Eye Samurai’. As one of the most anticipated sequels of the year could not be missing, the platform finally announced a release date for the second part of ‘Chicken Run’: December 15, 2023.
Entitled in English ‘Dawn of the Nugget’, this continuation of the wonderful film from the Aardman studio will arrive 23 years later of its premiere and will tell us the story of Molly, daughter of Ginger and Rocky, and how the couple of birds will have to return to action when they are kidnapped by a truck transporting chickens.
However, the film will come with changes compared to the previous team: Mel Gibson and Julia Sawalha will not repeat giving voice to the protagonists, but they will Zachary Levi and Thandiwe Newtonin addition to Bella Ramsey in the role of Molly.
Directed by Sam Fell (‘Mousepolis’) and those who do They will repeat will be Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell to the script. Peter Lord, director of the original film, will serve as executive producer. Two very different proposals but that have something in common: the desire to see them.
