It’s been a little over a month since Disney+ released the final episode of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ -at least the final one for now, who knows if they give in to the temptation of a season 2- and some were satisfied with the result, but others still We wonder how something like this could ever happen. The funny thing is that now Ewan McGregor has revealed what the original story of the series was… and luckily they changed it.
Why was it a wise move to change it?
As you will remember, the great axis of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ was the link that arose between its protagonist and a young Leia played by Vivien Lyra Blair. A debatable decision in itself considering the continuity of the franchise, but it is that the thing was about to be even worse:
It was going to be a story about me and Luke. It was always going to be that, and that was one of the great moments where everyone was like, “Wait a minute,” and then they changed it.
It is not clear when that decision was made, but the script for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ has undergone different modifications over the years. It started as a movie and ended as a seriesDath Maul was going to be the main villain instead of Darth Vader and the story was changed at the last moment because it was too dark.
At some point, the idea that Luke was the other fundamental character of the series was also shelved. all a successor if we remember that in ‘A new hope’ he hardly knows Ben Kenobi and qualifies him as “a strange hermit“And it is that no matter how young their adventures together might be, they would fall with the entire team that later would not have any memory of what happened.
That I understand that the temptation to bring back such a mythical character is too great -in ‘The Mandalorian’ they already did it-, but at least that makes sense within the continuity of the saga, please.
