After more than a decade adapting the adventures of the superheroes from The House of Ideas to the big and small screens until it gave shape to a true mass phenomenon that seems to have no expiration date, it is not surprising that the macro-project of Marvel Studios and its Cinematic Universe has been object of all kinds of criticism uttered by both anonymous and big names in the industry.
Wanda to the rescue
Of course, each premiere related to the MCU brings under its arm a good number of attacks —more or less justified— on the production model of Kevin Feige and company and the quality of the results obtained, and the case of ‘Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness’ has not been an exception. But, in the midst of the crossfire, Elizabeth Olsen has come out to stand up for the franchise.
In an interview with The Independent, the actress, who returns to life as Wanda Maximoff in the feature film directed by Sam Raimi, has considered that the works of Marvel Studios receive too much criticism that discredits the great professionals who work in them.
“I’m not saying we’re making auteur indie movies, but I think it brings our team down, and that pisses me off. These are some of the most incredible set designers, designers, and camera operators. I feel like underestimating them with that kind of criticism undermines the entire those people who make award-winning films and also work on these projects.”
“From an actor’s point of view, I get it. I totally get that there’s a different kind of acting being done. But I think that blaming Marvel for the kill undermines the hundreds of extremely talented people that make up the team. That’s right. where I get a little aggressive.
On the other hand, Olsen commented that, initially, he only signed on to participate in a couple of feature filmsbut, still unaware of the future plans of the saga, I would not hesitate to continue aboard it if required.
“I only signed on to do a couple of movies, so it’s still a surprise when they want to use me for more projects. It baffled me how lucky I was when they wanted me to do ‘Scarlet Witch and Vision.’ I don’t know how big the plans are, But I’m on board with anything as long as there’s a good idea attached to it.”
