ESPN and TMZ Sports cited letters from the complainant’s attorney saying McGregor “violently” assaulted her in a bathroom at the Kaseya Center during Game 4 of the Finals, which the Heat lost to the eventual champion Denver Nuggets.
The UFC championship star is accused of “aggressively kissing” the woman before attempting to force her to perform various sexual acts.
McGregor, 34, denied the accusations in a statement sent to AFP by his lawyer Barbara Llanes. “The accusations are false. Mr. McGregor will not be intimidated,” Llanes said in the text.
Miami police, for their part, limited themselves to confirming that their special victims office was investigating a complaint filed on Sunday.
“This is an open investigation, so no further information can be released at this time,” said a statement from the Miami Police Department sent to AFP, which did not name McGregor.
The Miami Heat and the NBA also said they are aware of the allegations and are conducting their own investigations.
“We are aware of the allegations and are conducting a full investigation,” the Heat said in a statement. “Pending the outcome of the investigation, we will refrain from making any further comments.”
McGregor’s conduct in Friday’s game had already sparked controversy over an incident he starred in during a timeout, when he punched a Miami Heat mascot on the court, which he had jumped on for a promotional ad.
The person wearing the mascot costume was taken to a local hospital and released the same night after receiving pain medication.
McGregor is one of the biggest UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) world stars, of which he held the featherweight and lightweight titles.
Beyond this competition, the Dublin fighter participated in other events such as a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather in 2017 that generated more than 600 million dollars in total income.
