The FIFA Council voted unanimously in favor of Saudi Arabia hosting the event, which will feature the six continental champions plus the league winner from the host country. The tournament will be held from December 12 to 22.
Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia was selected by the Asian Football Confederation to host the 2027 Asian Cup.
The FIFA Council meeting also confirmed changes to the structure of the Club World Cup, with the approval of a tournament expanded to 32 teams from 2025.
UEFA will have 12 places and Conmebol six, while Concacaf and the Asian and African confederations will have four each. In addition, there will be a place for the Oceania confederation and another for the hosts.
It was also confirmed at the FIFA meeting that the United States, Mexico and Canada will automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup as co-hosts of the tournament, with their places deducted from Concacaf’s global allocation of six.
