Reddit modified its terms of use and now Allow AI-generated porn. Rule 3, which prohibits sharing someone’s sexually explicit media created or posted without their permission, has included an exception. Users will now be able to post images spicy produced by AI, as long as they refer to fictitious characters.
A web analysis of Account & Community Restrictions conducted by The Verge shows the update. Reddit added a sentence to Rule 3 mentioning that posting is allowed fictional character porn, cartoons, anime and more.
Original Paragraph (2018)
Please note that the rule does not apply to media distributed commercially with the consent of those represented, although please note our rules on respecting the intellectual property of others.
Update (July 5, 2023)
Consider that the rule does not apply to media distributed commercially with the consent of those represented, AI-generated sexual media depicting fictional people or characters, or artistic depictions (e.g., cartoons, anime, etc.)although take into account our rules on respect for the intellectual property of third parties.
If you’re rubbing your hands thinking about a wave of Tifa, Cammy or Diva porn images coming, we have bad news. Although Rule 3 has been updated with this exception, there are other rules that limit the posting of sexually explicit content.
On the one hand, Rule 6 establishes that communities must properly label content, particularly content that is graphic, sexually explicit or offensive. For another, Rule 4 prohibits sexual or suggestive content in which they participate minors, even if it was self-generated by the minor.
Deepfakes will continue to be banned from Reddit
Although the new exception allows for AI-generated porn, deepfakes will remain prohibited on the platform. Reddit Rule 3 mentions in one of its paragraphs that “anyone else’s images or videos posted for the specific purpose of faking explicit content or soliciting fake pornography (for example, deepfakes or bubble porn) are also against the rules.” .
If we remember, porn with celebrities became popular in 2018, when a user uploaded several videos to Reddit in which actresses like Gal Gadot, Maisie Williams or Taylor Swift had sex. His creator, known as “deepfakes”, designed an algorithm to replace the faces of celebrities using his computer.
The content became so popular that the subreddit was created r/deepfakes, where more than 15,000 users shared photos and videos of fake pornography generated by artificial intelligence. The joy was short-lived, however, as Reddit updated the rules and banned the deepfakeswhich led to the death of this community.
With the passage of time and the explosion of apps like Midjourney or Stable Diffusion, some wonder if AI-generated porn will return to Reddit. Although there are still some hurdles, we may see a resurgence. The truth is that popular apps cannot produce NSFW content, so users will have to rely on alternatives like Unstable Diffusion, SoulGen.AI, or Neural.Love.
