Bulgarian-born actor Christo Jivkov passed away on April 1 at the age of 48, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was known worldwide in 2004 thanks to the fact that he played the character of the apostle John in “The Passion of the Christ”the film directed by Mel Gibson which became one of the most watched in the history of cinema.
Born in Sofia in 1975, Jivkov studied acting at the Bulgarian Film and Theater Academy, and shortly after graduating as a film director, he received the opportunity to act in the film “The profession of arms”, which in 2002 garnered rave reviews. That caught the attention of Gibson, who selected him for a role in the tape he was preparing on the life of Jesus, in which he shared credits with Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci.
Several months ago various media reported that Mel Gibson works in the production of the sequel to “The passion of the Christ”, whose shooting could begin this spring; Apparently Christo Jivkov would return to play the character he played in the 2004 film. The company Red Carpet Films, through its social networks, announced the death of the actorand remembered it with the message: “Today we lost our dear friend and colleague Christo Jivkov, co-founder of Red Carpet. We are devastated by this loss. We will never forget you!” Rest in peace.
