“If you’re afraid, why do you get into boxing,” Márquez said.
“(David) He already earned it (the opportunity). He is the number one challenger, here nothing happens by magic, I think the organization sees and classifies whoever has to classify and is number one, he has won and has climbed in the rankings,” added the retired boxer.
“Canelo” indicated that Márquez has always been very critical of his career, something that could be out of envy, he said during an interview with rolling stones,.
Juan Manuel Márquez has always been a critic of my career. Out of envy or I don’t know why
“Juan Manuel Márquez has always been a critic of my career. Out of envy or I don’t know why. But they are words that do not affect me and that I do not take much into account,” the man from Guadalajara told the magazine.
“It is pitiful that a fighter like him envy another Mexican and everything he is doing, he knows and cannot accept. I think we shouldn’t pay much attention to people like him who are rotten in their heads,” added the champion.
It will be on May 6 at the Akron Stadium in Zapopan, Jalisco in which “Canelo” returns to the ring to face John Ryder, and plans to seek revenge against Dmitry Bivol next September. Benavidez is the interim Supermedian monarch of the WBC, for his part “Canelo” has in his possession the scepter of that organization in that division those of WBA, IBF and WBO.
Regarding the confrontation with Ryder in the stadium that is the home of Club Guadalajara, he described that fighting at home is something that excites him a lot.
“The truth for me is very special to return after 12 years, with the people who saw me grow from the beginning of my career, come as the best, as undisputed champion, bring them this fight and live the experience that I am living in other places is very special to me”, adds Álvarez in the interview.
“With emotion, I am very excited to be able to be fighting in front of all my people and that they have responded in this way. I feel very happy and grateful to everyone and ready to come back, give them a great fight and obviously a great show,” he declared.
Álvarez also made comments about his positions in a broadcast with Javier “Chicharito” Hernández that a strong mentality is what the Mexican athlete needs.
They have the mentality or they are already visualized reaching the fourth game and that’s it. That mentality must change.
“I think it’s born from mediocrity. When you’re comfortable or satisfied with something, you think you don’t need to work, I think that’s where all this comes from. We were talking about football, if each one of the players gave their 100% and put on the mentality of give everything on the field, each one of them, the 11, not 5 or 4. Unfortunately it’s a team effort, all 11 have to be 100% and give everything with the mentality of winning, but what I believe, seeing it from the outside, it is that they have the mentality or are already visualized reaching the fourth game and that’s it. That mentality must change, because we have great athletes and players who can do many things.“, the Jalisco boxer pointed out.
