January is bringing us more anime premieres, and between continuations and adaptations several original series also sneak in. One of the first to arrive with the new year has been ‘Buddy Daddies’, a comedy with two hired killers whose family dynamics completely change in the middle of Christmas.
‘Spy x Family’ was one of the biggest hits of 2022 featuring an offbeat family… but if a spy and assassin can take on a little girl and make a lovely family, two hitmen shouldn’t have to either. too much trouble, right?
You go for the objective and I go to the AMPA meetings
Kazuki Kurusu is a criminal contractor who lives with his best friend rei suwa, a professional assassin. Both are extremely efficient in their work and do not leave a puppet with a head, although their life as roommates is not so harmonious.
The first chapter of ‘Buddy Daddies‘ does a good job introducing us to these two characters and their day to day between missions. Kazuki is a charming trapper and womanizer who is in charge of keeping the house afloat, while Rei is an introvert who is happy to lie quietly on the couch with his video games.
But then it seems that it arrives miri to blow up their lives when he slips into the middle of a dangerous mission looking for his “dad”.

The “found family” trope it never runs out and it looks like ‘Buddy Daddies’ is going to make the most of it with two somewhat reluctant adoptive parents. So far we have had a good start that serves as a perfect presentation for the characters and their dynamics and that combines humor, action and a little bit of drama very well (because obviously not so hidden dramas are coming).
It’s a hitman comedy, so you havee his moments of black and plenty of humor in which we solve the problem with three shots and something else, butterfly. And that marries perfectly with the elements slice of life what we have seen so far.
We will have to see how it continues to develop throughout its 13 chapters, but for now PA Works has left us a very fluid and expressive animation, and also some action scenes where they especially let the two protagonists and their lethal skills shine.

the anime of Yoshiyuki Asai premieres a new chapter every week that we can see through Crunchyroll. Now that Miri has invaded the lives of Rei and Kazuki, it’s up to her to see how the two assassins adjust to her new mission. For now ‘Buddy Daddies’ is presented as a fun and very entertaining anime that has a good base to be one of the hits of the season.
