The singer of lying down corridos Featherweighthas had incredible growth in recent months in the music market. His appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s ‘The Tonight Show’ on April 28 is part of that success, however, activist Bryan LeBarón takes a different view.
According to the member of the LeBarón family, far from being something positive, presenting the singer on the important American television show was “Give a window to the apology of crime”.
It was through a thread on Twitter that Bryan LeBarón explained that in the United States there are 100,000 deaths a year from addictions, in Mexico “100 murders a day” are reported; and both countries are struggling to deal with fentanyl, for which he criticized that, “Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon’s primetime show features Featherweight, a performer of songs celebrating criminal leaders.”
“While the songs don’t provoke violence, they help to normalize it. They should be a warning sign that this type of music is in the first places worldwide. It speaks of the fact that the culture of crime is rooted in the people and is even considered aspirational”, argued the member of the LeBarón family.
The activist believes that in Mexico “Populations become ghosts, they are massacred, women and young people disappear” as a consequence of the violence, for which reason he rejects the existence of “who compose songs at the heads of this terror, for financial gain.”
For LeBarón it is not justifiable to promote music dedicated to “crime” and considers it a “moral crime”.
“There is so much culture to promote among our peoples, that giving a window to the apology of crime is a moral crime. Let us reflect on what we are going through, and without pretexts, let us not celebrate violence”, sentenced.
Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, better known as Featherweight, at just 23 years old, became the first regional Mexican artist to appear on Jimmy Fallon’s show, one of the most important television spaces in the United States.
Contrary to other artists who have attended ‘The Tonight Show’, Featherweight was not interviewed by the presenter, but was on the television space to interpret his hit ‘Ella Baila Sola’, a song that has become one of the most viral on social networks currently, and, in addition, it leads among the most listened to songs on the Spotify platform.
