One of them and one of the most applauded was the Mexican Guillermo del Toro, who at the start of the awards season received a second award for his film “Pinocchio.”
However, Brendan Fraser was also recognized by reappearing at an award show and receiving the Best Actor award for his leading role in The Whale.
But that’s not all, after receiving his award between tears and hugs to those around him, the star of the 1990s gave an emotional speech.
He assured that the film is about love, redemption and about finding the light in a dark place.
“I am very lucky to have worked with this great cast… It took us 32 years to get here.”
“I was in a wild area, but they found me (…) if like the character I played in this movie, when they feel they are in a dark place, I want them to feel that if they have the strength to stand up, good things will happen” , he said before the attendees of the night.
Fraser had previously disclosed that he suffered sexual harassment in 2003 by the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which awards the Golden Globes, for which he did not appear at this year’s awards.
The Whale will be in theaters in Mexico starting February 9.
