A splendid Emmy Rossum heads the cast of Angelyne, the miniseries that sheds light on one of the most mysterious figures in the show.
In 2017, The Hollywood Reporter featured “The Mystery of LA Billboard Diva Angelyne’s Real Identity Is Finally Solved,” ending a 30-year-old mystery. It was about the true personality of a “diva” of the 80s, Angelyne, from whom now comes a miniseries that adapts the aforementioned journalistic piece.

As the report’s summary reads: “Long before Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, the enigmatic blonde bombshell was famous for being famous, perpetually driving the streets of Hollywood in a pink Corvette. But her true identity has remained a secret all these years…until now.”
Thanks to the journalist Gary Baum we learned that Angelyne is Renee Goldberg, a Polish daughter of survivors of a World War II concentration camp. However, a cruel history of immigrants was hidden when Angelyne emerged into the world, a voluptuous blonde who became famous by hiring billboards to promote herself, in search of fame for herself, first through music, then through the acting, modeling and politics.
Allison Miller and Emmy Rossum’s Angelyne
Angelyne is an NBCUniversal miniseries, which is available in Latin America as an exclusive on the Universal+ streaming service. In the five episodes that make it up, the showrunner Allison Miller gives us a proposal in the tone of a mockumentary, with hints of magical realism, led by a fantastic Emmy Rossum (Shameless). Through this narrative resource that goes from interviews in the present to flashbacks in the 80s, we see Angelyne’s path to build her public fame, while the miniseries contrasts the truths and lies of the different protagonists of the story.
We are facing a solid work that manages to break the limitations of the genre in which it falls, the dramatic biopics that exalt the character they portray. In Angelyne, showrunner and directors Matt Spicer and Lucy Tcherniak, in cahoots with the producers, writers and cast, manage to flip the original question of who Angelyne is and why she hid her past, to uncover a woman who should have disappeared. his past to heal the wounds it left him.
Or as EW defines it: “Technically, it’s a biography, but the miniseries, starring a totally engaged Emmy Rossum, manages to feel like something new: a loving and crazy celebration of a woman who regained her power by burning her past.”
