The 25-year-old was called up on May 31 by coach Diego Cocca despite a right knee problem.
“Alexis Vega is out of the final call for the Mexican national team that will participate in the Gold Cup due to injury. The player will report to his club to continue his rehabilitation process,” the FMF reported in a brief statement.
Earlier, the “Tri” -as the Mexicans call their team-, finished third in the Concacaf League of Nations after beating Panama 1-0.
In the Gold Cup, Mexico will be in Group B where they will face Honduras on June 25, four days later they will play against Haiti and close the first phase against Qatar on July 2.
