The first trailer for ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate’ dropped last December, and now a new Super Bowl trailer has arrived, further highlighting the action of the most anticipated premiere in 2023 in just 30 secondsmarked by an epic phrase from Harrison Ford to another of the film’s characters, probably his old enemy played by Mad Mikkelsen. “Are you still a Nazi?”
The most expensive feature film in Lucasfilm history
Taking place in 1969 against the backdrop of the space race, ‘Indiana Jones 5’ follows Indy and his goddaughter Helena, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, taking on Mads Mikkelsen’s Jürgen Voller, an ex-Nazi working for the America in the moon landing program and is trying to change the world to a better place in her own way. His match phrase is a soft irony that shoots at how the ultra-right is camouflaged within the institutions.
The cast of ‘Indiana Jones 5’ also includes Antonio Banderas, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Toby Jones, and John Rhys-Davies who returns as Sallah. James Mangold has directed Lucasfilm’s most expensive feature film and co-wrote the script with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. Steven Spielberg, director of all the previous Indiana Jones movies, has been involved, but only as an executive producer.
Although the Super Bowl trailer for Indiana Jones and Dial of Destiny does not shed anything new on the plot, it confirms that Indy and Jürgen Voller have a previous history, very much in the style of ‘García’, which we will see in the film’s opening sequence set in World War II, where Harrison Ford is rejuvenated more than two decades. There’s another scene with Indy and Helena having to jump out of a crashing plane that promises trademark excitement.
