‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ was one of the great revelation anime that had fans of the medium in suspense with the broadcast of its first season between the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. A few months later it arrived ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ to continue sweeping, and now that the anime movie is about to arrive in Spain, it’s time to catch up on what you need to know before watching it.
A prequel full of winks
‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ was originally published as a limited mini-series called ‘Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School’, which later gave rise to the manga that ended up being ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’. Her creator Gege Akutami renamed her and made her canon retroactively within the main story.
You can watch the anime movie without having seen the series before, since it perfectly introduces us to all the lore of sorcerers and curses and introduces us to several characters from scratch. Of course, there are also several winks and cameos to give and take for fans who already come with everything learned from home.
A new protagonist for a new story
Although Yuji Itadori has quickly become one of the fan favorite anime leads, we won’t see him in ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’. Instead, the film’s protagonist is yuta okkotsu.
Yuta is also a teenager, although in his case he is a human who has been cursed by a childhood friend who died when they were both young and has now become a very powerful curse. During the movie, Yuta must learn to control his rika and his powers to deal with what lies ahead.
The release date was not random
The film premiered in Japan on December 24, 2021. This date was not only perfect to take advantage of the pull of the Christmas billboard, but it is also a very important date within ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’.
Without giving you spoilers, there is a very key event within the manganime continuity that takes place on December 24, 2017and those responsible for the film wanted to take full advantage of the date by making a somewhat meta reference to the premiere of the film.
Secondaries suck camera
One of the strengths of ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ is that it manages to give it more screen time and develop some secondary characters that are further behind in the anime. if you like them Maji, Toge and Panda, you will have a lot of them as they improve their skills together with Yuta. And Satoru, of course, we also have a lot of Satoru Gojo ahead.
The return of the original designs
As is often the case, character designs go through some changes from manga to anime. Also within the manga, the characters sometimes go through different phases, and by the time the ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ anime premiered, the manga’s designs had been refined a bit more and it was released with a more “definitive” version.
Even so, these designs have not been completely lost and the creators of the film have recovered them for the occasionalthough taking into account the personalities of each one and respecting the continuity of the anime.
Watch out for the post-credits!
We should be used to Marvel Studios movies by now, and after the credits of ‘Jujutsu Kaisen 0’ We have a farewell gift.
The post-credits scene It suggests a small epilogue for Yuta’s story, and also leaves us with some foundations for the next season of the anime, although we will still have to wait until 2023 to see what it all remains.
